La Fortuna Waterfall is a fascinating experience that will immerse you in pure wilderness. Dense rainforest will surround you while the white cascade fills your senses with awe. The place also has a wide diversity of birds and other species of fauna. This beautiful zone also has a rocky base as a product of geological formations.

Your tour starts when your vehicle and tour guide take you uphill to the La Fortuna Waterfall Reserve entrance. Once you arrive at the national park entrance, get ready for a hike.

Beyond the entrance, a little hanging bridge leads to on-site conveniences, including change rooms and bathrooms, showers, lockers, a souvenir store, an orchid garden, and the main stairway leading to the waterfall’s base.

If you want to get in the river at the base of the La Fortuna Waterfall, it’s advised to change into your swimsuit (using the change rooms provided) before embarking on your hike.

As you start by going down the stairway, you may spot toucans, howler monkeys, and several colorful smaller types of birds.

It is essential to realize that it is a 1,034-step journey (517 steps each way) that goes down 500 meters (1.3 miles), so this experience is best for people that enjoy exercise or being physically active.

Once at the bottom of La Fortuna Waterfall, you may choose to swim in its fresh waters. You can also spend your time taking in the breathtaking environment with the permanent drizzle of the waterfall, the unique sunlight beams coming through the canopy, and the iridescent morpho butterflies fluttering around the incredible vegetation.

Before you go back to the hotel, you will have some time to do some shopping in the Association of La Fortuna’s unique souvenirs store.
